Non-work-essential

To be non-work-essential meant that as a slave laborer, the job that you had was not essential to the Nazi war effort. Therefore you were expendable. People tried very hard to get war-essential jobs, typically in factories that produced materials or tools useful in war, to save their lives and save themselves from being deported to concentration camps and death camps.
