These are the steps that I went through to create this website. This is my first website and I enjoyed making it a lot. I hope that in using this website you have become inspried to create one yourself and that you would use these steps to help you.
Choosing a topic:
When I chose my topic I was careful to choose something that I really cared about and was interested in. This way I knew that I wouldn't become tired of it a few months in and that I would try harder to explore the topic more thoroughly.
Research:
In the first few drafts of my site, I had a poor range of sources; only a few online databases and genaric photos off of Google. Since then, I have realized the value in diversified research and I have read books, looked at pictures, watched videos, purused encyclopedias and listened to endless audio clips in an effort to make my site as truthful and well rounded as possible. Not to mention that the multimedia makes the whole experience much more fun.
Planning the Site Layout:
Many of my preliminary plans were less engaging and more like long lists of mundane facts. As I grew more comfortable with the process, I realized that there is an inifinite number of interesting ways to diplay information.
Actual Construction:
I worked in Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop CS2 to build this site and as with most of my steps my initial prgress was slow and halting. Eventually, I got the hang of it and learned to use templates, read and write in html code, insert video, audio and photos, and the ins and outs of the simple features needed to make a site like this one.
Editing:
After I "finished" my site and everything looked good and flowed nicely I thought that I was done. But when I showed it proudly to several friends and family members they each had a few suggestions. Since then I have asked people over and over if there is anything at all that they would change and thanks to thier million and one corrections my website has much more depth and information and makes much more sense.
