Commissars

Commissars were officers in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republican Army. When USSR POWs were captured they suffered particularly badly under the Nazi reign. They were used for grunt work and were forced to build many parts of the camps that would later house and/or kill them. Auschwitz Birkenau for example.

All this work the Commissars were forced to do on smaller food rations and in worse living conditions that most of the other prisoners as they were especially hated by thier SS guards.
